Year 11 IGCSE Geography Field Trip: Exploring Urban Environments

Our Year 11 IGCSE Geography students stepped out of the classroom to take part in an enriching urban field trip as part of their studies on urban environments. The trip was designed to give them a hands-on opportunity to explore key concepts and issues in urban geography, using real-world examples to deepen their understanding.

Throughout the day, students investigated:

Environmental Quality – They evaluated various elements that contribute to the livability of urban spaces, including pavements, building conditions, litter, traffic levels, the presence of green spaces, and graffiti.

Land Use – Observing how urban areas are utilized, students analyzed different types of land use, including residential, industrial, commercial, and entertainment spaces.

Traffic Counts – Students also conducted traffic counts to study the movement of vehicles such as cars, buses, lorries, motorbikes, bicycles, and more, gaining insights into urban mobility and congestion.
