A Night at the Ballet
24. 10. 2026As part of a school outing, we had the opportunity to watch the ballet Cinderella performed by the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana (SNG opera in balet Ljubljana). The evening was a chance for us to experience a modernised version of a classical ballet, combining dance, music and storytelling in a live performance. The modern choreography by Lukas Zuschlag and the original music by Sergej Sergejevič Profokjev combined to create a very special atmosphere. The ballet told the familiar story of Cinderella, a young girl who faces difficulties at home but whose life changes after she attends a royal ball. With the help of her fairy godmother (In this version, the four season fairies), she meets the prince, and the story moves toward the happy ending we all know. Amongst the dancers were the well known Eleonora Ancona (Cinderella), Nina Noč (Stepmother), Matteo Moretto (Prince), and Emilie Gallerani Tassinari (Main fairy).
One thing that really stood out for me was how the dancers were able to express emotions and tell the story through movement instead of words. I was especially impressed by the skill and coordination required to perform so gracefully, and the way they looked so strong, yet delicate at the same time fascinated me. Overall, watching Cinderella was an enjoyable and memorable experience. It gave us a chance to dress up into fancier clothes, and provided an amazing opportunity to experience a cultural event outside the classroom. It was a wonderful way to experience live theatre together as a school community.
